Repair Mercruiser Parts

Repair Mercruiser Parts
By Trish Dougherty

Mercruiser

Mercruiser is the leading producer of gasoline-powered stern drivers and inboards. The company has been active in this industry for the past forty years. They have a stellar reputation as being reliable and a customer driven company. Mercruisers are sold both domestically and internationally, and offer customers warranties, and technical support.

What is an inboard motor?

An inboard motor is a car engine. It is a fixed propulsion system; an individual is driving a drive system that works via a gearbox with external features. An outboard engine is one that is directly connected to the drive system.

Mercruiser Inboards

Mercruiser is the major player in the gas engine business. Mercruiser inboards are popular because of their ease of use and ease to maintain. These inboards offer a range of power and are used both in cars and boats. A mercruiser engine works the same way a car engine does. The inboard engine is a water-cooled, separate lubrication system, and cylinder formation.

Repair Mercruiser Parts

Mercruiser engines for the most part are very reliable, but when it comes to car engines, or other parts for that matter, something can and will usually go wrong. Things eventually break down and stop working. Even though you might be a genuine car lover and aficionado that does not necessarily mean that you are a car mechanic. Engines and that parts that compose it, can be very complicated. Replacing many of these parts can be an issue and a headache; so many times it is important to take the car to a profession to deal with it.

The first thing you should do, before searching on your own for a mechanic is to take a close look at your owners manual. The manual many times will be able to offer you tips and advice on maintance, and give you enough information to make an informed decision. Many times the manual will have numbers of recommended places that will be able to service your car, and it since it is in the manual they should be reliable places.

There are a couple of things that you may want to try first, before taking the car into the shop for repair. If your engine does not turn over it could be due to a dead battery. Check the battery and make sure that it is fully charged. If you turn the ignition key and it does not activate, it probably means that you are getting no voltage to the dash and or to the key switch. This implies that you might have a blown ignition fuse, a dislodged circuit breaker, a loose or damaged harness plug. You may want to unplug it and then put it back in. This might do the trick. Your engine also has a red circuit breaker button, push the button, you have to really push it hard, the breaker can sometimes pop out of the harness if it is overloaded, and doing this can resolve the problem with this part. If this does not work, then unfortunately, you are probably looking at a bigger issue and will need to take the car into the shop for repair.

The reason an individual purchases a mercruiser engine is because of its reliability. They are products that are cheaper and of less quality, but it is always better to use the best in an industry. When these parts need to be repaired it is more important that you get the best people to fix it. The important thing is make sure you find someone who is qualified and licensed to work on your engine.

Repair Or Replace Your Automotive Headliner

Repair Or Replace Your Automotive Headliner
    By Todd Speary

    What can be done?

There have been some temporary headliner solutions offered in the past, such as those wist in pins, but they are at best a temporary solution to repair the problem and will actually damage the headliner board, and cause more problems when it comes time for a more permanent repair.

The best solution to repairing your headliner is to completely replace the fabric of your headliner. You could have that done professionally, although that would be a rather expensive solution. A much more affordable solution would be a do-it-yourself headliner repair kit that make this project something that anyone can do.

At stockinteriors.com we also offer a complete replacement for the entire headliner board, which comes pre-covered with the fabric color of your choice. This option is only avaialble for a very small selection of automobiles.

    What is a Headliner?

Most cars, trucks, vans and SUVs after the mid 70's have what is called a fabric covered headliner board. This headliner board is usually made from a pressed material, much like cardboard. That headliner board is then covered with a foam backed headliner fabric, which is glued directly to the board. In most cases, the sagging or separation occurs when the headliner fabric separates from the foam.

    What should I buy?

When looking for a do-it-yourself headliner repair kit, look for several things. First of all, make sure you are buying a quality material. Most headliner fabric comes with either 1/8 inch thick foam, or 1/4 inch thick foam. It is usually best to go with the 1/4 inch thick foam as it is more durable and will give a better finished look. Make sure that wherever you buy, you can get the exact color that you want; a reliable headliner store will send you samples to match your existing headliner. Keep in mind, that time and sunlight can fade your headliner, so look for a piece that has been protected from the sun when matching colors.

Also, make sure that you order the correct size headliner repair kit. Cars, trucks, van and SUVs all come in different widths and lengths, so you want to make sure you buy enough material to cover the entire headliner board. If in doubt, always buy a little extra, as it is easy to cut it smaller, but impossible to make it larger once you buy it.

And last of all, make sure the headliner repair kit you buy comes with enough glue adhesive. Typically, headliner kits include a spray contact adhesive. Usually one can is enough for a small van/SUV or car, but anything larger will require 2 cans of glue. Make sure the glue is specifically made for headliner fabrics and the high temperatures that can build inside of a vehicle.

How do I replace the Headliner Material?

Without going into too many details, the general idea of a do-it-yourself headliner repair kit, is that you scrape the existing headliner material off your old headliner board and glue on the new material. Most quality headliner kits will come with the detailed instructions on how to do this. The hardest part of the job may be getting the headliner board out of your car; be sure not to damage the board in any way, or you will be in worse shape then when you started. And remember that the smoother you can get the headliner board before you glue the new fabric in place, the better the end result will look.

As you can see, replacing or repairing your headliner material is a job that anyone can do. You just need a little time and patience and you can repair that ugly and dangerous headliner.

Todd has been in the automotive industry for several years, but in the last five years has spcialized in the automotive interiors industry. His new venture is Stock Interiors which specializes in auto carpet, headliners and other interior products.

Some Important Considerations In Choosing A Quality Body Shop For Your Auto Repair

Some Important Considerations In Choosing A Quality Body Shop For Your Auto Repair
    By Gregg Hall

Although your sports car may take scratches and beatings, accidents sometimes happen. When they happen, the car owner must decide where to take it for body repair. Finding a reliable quality body shop you can trust is a good idea. You always want to make sure that your car will be fixed to the way it looked before the accident.

As with other services, there are either awesome providers or really bad providers. Most providers fall in between those categories. Looking at, the important ness of a sports car to a motor lover, it seems rational to find the best care for your baby.

The first rule is how well the shop is known for its business. Talk to other sports car owners, your mechanic and others to find the shop thats right for your sports car. A really good shop will be known by everyone in town. Someone should stay far away from shops that dont have a good word about them. Dont be drawn to a shop just because of its big sign. So instead seek out other knowledge of experts who know of master body shops.

The second rule is your thinking of there work. Any shop should be happy to show you there current projects or cars they are working on. By looking at their actual work, you will be able to make the decision of if they can get the job done and done right. If you think that their work isnt good enough and looks off, you can imagine what your car would look like if you let them work on it.

The last rule is how firmly a body shop will stand behind what it has done. Bodywork can usually be finished in a way that will last forever, and a great shop should believe in what they can do for you. Ask the shop if they have any guarantees that they may have in case they dont fix your ride to the potential you know can be done. A shop owner who doesnt seem to believe in what they can do is probably a bad choice.

A car is always an investment, and is most always a love. It only makes good sense that a well known repair man will be taking car of your ride during an accident repair. Accidents happen, but there is no reason why you should be able to get the best possible repairs as you can go out and find the shop you need today.

Auto Repair Costs: How You Are RippedOff Daily Under the Radar

Auto Repair Costs: How You Are Ripped-Off Daily Under the Radar
    By Theodore Olson

Most know the most glaring auto repair pricing abuses: Service centers overcharging $100s even $1000s for repairs, or charging for service that was never done at all. To be sure, this still happens every day.

However, there are many other techniques which involve flying just low enough to avoid detection. The savvy repair shops increase the price so as not to set off any alarms. Its become so common that its not just an accepted industry practice, but even service customers have accepted paying higher prices.

Knowing how ingrained price-gouging is within the automotive service industry, its shocking (although understandable) that even service customers have succumbed to excessive car repair prices. I frequently hear service customers state:

Yeah, I know I was ripped off, but my cars fixed now. Or, I know they charge too much, but theyre convenient.

This is insane! To accept auto repair price-gouging is to allow its continuation. The difficult part, of course, is how to stop it. Given that the automotive service industry is so big and powerful (and so frightfully necessary) how does one battle such a force?

The first thing to understand is the degree to which this type of stealth-like price-gouging occurs. A two-decade undercover investigation has revealed that 98% of all repair shops (dealerships, local shops, and franchises) are price-gouging their customers in one form or another.

The following exchange, between a service manager and service advisor, provides an idea of the scope of scamming below the radar.

A service advisor asked his manager how to bill more hours per month, which is another way of asking how the advisor can make more money. The service manager casually stated:

Simply add an additional two tenths to every ticket you write.

In other words, every customer this particular service advisor helps, he was instructed by a superior to add a little extra. So if the labor rate is $100 per hour that would equal $20 extra. Rather than pay $100 per hour, the service customer would actually pay $120.

$20 doesnt sound like much. However, whether its an overcharge of $0.02 or $20, its too much. If you visit a shop practicing just this strategy alone (there are hundreds of strategies, many applied simultaneously), you may get scammed $100's or more by years end.

Whats really shocking is that being ripped-off $100's over a years time is actually minor!

    Try $500-$5000!

Take the Scare out of Auto Repair

Take the Scare out of Auto Repair
    By Jack Cooper

    1. How to choose a repair shop. What you should look for when choosing a repair shop

Ask for a recommendation from friends, family, and anyone else you really trust. Look for a repair shop before you need one so you are not rushed at the last minute to find one.

Use the telephone, shop around by phone to compare prices and Warranty policies on the repair to find your best deal.

Ask to see their current licenses if local and/or state law requires shops to be licensed or registered. Also your state Attorney General office or local consumer protection agency, BBB and Chamber of Commerce may know if there are a record of complaints against a particular shop.

If you have an Extended Warranty Contract and intend to use it present it to the shop to make sure it will be honored before any work is started.

    2. How To Find The Right Automotive Technician. And is one automotive technician better than another.

Look for shops that display various certifications of their technicians, like an ASE certification seal. Certification indicates that some or all of the technicians meet a basic standard of knowledge and experience in a specific technical area, if the certification states the tech is a Master certified tech that means the tech has passed tests and meets the standard for all areas of repair.

Also make sure that the certifications are all current as the mechanics have to be re tested every few years to make sure they stay up to date with changing technology, but remember just because the shop is certified does not always guarantee good or honest work. This is where investigating the shop/techs will pay off.

And make sure you ask the shop/mechanic if they have experience working on the make/model of your vehicle as some shops may not have the experience working on your import if the specialize in domestic cars and vise versa.

    3. Unlocking the Mystery of Repair Charges

Before arranging to have any work done to your car, ask what the shops pricing policy is. Some shops charge a flat rate for labor on vehicle repair. The rate is based on an independent or manufacturer estimate of the time required to complete a repair. Some shops will charge actual time the tech works on the vehicle. Most shops use the flat rate system and this is usually the best for the customer as there is no wiggle room for the tech to make time on a repair.

If you need an expensive repair or a complicated repair or if you question the required repair, consider getting a second opinion. Just think of it as going to a doctor for major surgery and you want to make sure the doctor is right.

Find out if there is a diagnostic charge if you decide to take the vehicle some where else for the repair. Many shops will charge you for diagnosis time if you have repairs done or not, most will deduct it from repair bill if work done at their shop.

Where ever you get the repairs done, make sure you ask for a written estimate and the written estimate should include the following: It should state what is being repaired, the parts and parts cost needed and the labor cost for the repair. Make sure you get a signed copy before you leave the shop.

Also the Repair Order should state that the shop will contact you before they do any extra repair or time that exceeds the original estimate. State law requires this. In most states shops can only charge up to $25.00 over estimate on repair before contacting you. Most honest shops will contact you first before doing adding any excess charges.

Make sure you know about parts that are to be repaired or replaced, parts are classified as:

New-These parts are made to original manufacturer specification either by the vehicle manufacturer or and independent company, such as NAPA etc. Prices will vary from Original Manufacturer original equipment or an after market manufacturer and you should be informed of what is used or decided which you want replace on your vehicle.

Re-manufactured, rebuilt or reconditioned.-All three of these terms generally mean the same thing. It means the respective part has been restored to original working condition. Most of these parts will have standard warranty on them from 30 days to a lifetime depending or the part and reman. company. Usealy this includes just the part and not labor to replace it.

Salvage-These are used parts taken from another vehicle without any alteration from vehicles in a salvage yard. These parts carry a 30 day guarantee depending on the part and salvage yard. Most electrical parts from a salvage yard is bought as is.

After the repair is completed make sure you get the completed repair order showing work done and parts replaced. It should list the repair , parts used, cost of parts and cost of labor. Make sure you check the odometer from when you brought the vehicle in and when you pick it up, there should not be any difference in the miles unless a road test was needed after the repair to make sure everything was working properly. Ask to see all the replaced parts, you are entitled to take them with you if you want with the exception of a part that was replaced and needs to have the old part returned as a core. The shop is charged a core charge for the old part until it is returned to Parts store, if you want to take this part you can if you pay the core charge. Sometimes these are very high depending on the part as they are sent back to a rebuilder to be reconditioned, large parts (transmissions, engines etc.) and electrical parts are most expensive.

How To Find A Quality Auto Body Repair Shop

How To Find A Quality Auto Body Repair Shop
    By Aurel Radulescu

Its unfortunate, but auto accidents occur every day all around the world. When they happen, most people arent prepared for the costly repairs that will ultimately follow. Whether you have recently been in an accident or if you know someone who has, selecting the right auto body repair shop will save you a lot of stress during this hectic time.

-First and foremost, take a glance around any auto body repair shop before you commit to hiring them for your repairs. Is it well lit and clean?

-The next thing to consider is whether or not the auto body repair shop has up-to-date and modern equipment. Does their equipment look as though its in good condition and well cared for?

-If they allow it, ask someone to give you a tour of the facility or if you can browse around on your own. For reasons of safety, some auto body repair shops will not allow a tour but others may permit a brief one providing a technician is with you.

-While inside, take a brief scan of the area to see if there are any signs, plaques or other indication of the training that the auto body technicians have undergone.

Qualifications and training are extremely important when it comes to auto body repair. If the job is done well, repairs should help the car to look brand new again. Window replacement, painting, parts replacement and other work are some of the more visible repairs that are done following an accident. If your automobile is painted, you will want to look for any small paint bubbles that may remain after the work is done. In addition, you will want to make sure that the glass is placed securely back inside the car and will not rattle or shake, which would indicate the window is loose.

It is important to inquire about the auto body repair shops policy if you are unhappy with the work. Will they fix it at no additional charge and how long will the extra repairs take? If you notice any problems with the body work of your automobile, tell the technician or business owner before leaving the repair shop. It is best to bring up any concerns immediately in order to confirm the problem is a result of incorrect repair work. If you do happen to notice a problem after you get the car home, call the repair shop immediately and let them know that you will be returning your automobile for additional repairs.

The Family Business The Godfather's Business or the Automotive Repair Shop?

The Family Business - The Godfather's Business or the Automotive Repair Shop?
    By Frank Bellucci

When somebody mentions he Family Business I think of a well dressed, old and skinny Italian man with a scratchy voice and has a name like Tony or Sammy. My Grandfather, who I've mentioned in some of my other articles, definitely fits the bill. With just one glass of a good Chianti wine, you might find him in our garden patio, rocking back and forth, singing Italian love songs for hours. He was indeed a short, skinny guy, who talked in a voice very similar to the Godfather and at the age of 80 he still had a full head of gray hair. Give him a mandolin and it was almost like being in an old Italian movie.

Well let me get back to what Family means to me in a Family Business (beyond that old Italian theme). It doesn't matter whether it's an automotive service business, like Sandy and I operate, or a cleaning business, a landscaping business, or even a street sweeping business. You see, when Grandpa owned businesses in his younger days, it was his name, his word, and his values that he was offering. He wasn't fixing transmissions, brakes, or air conditioning like we do. Grandpa was painting murals on grocery store windows. But like us, he knew if he didn't deliver good quality work for his customers, his name would be ruined and he might have a hard time finding work - especially in a tight nit New England town. That's why I like working with businesses here in Austin that are family owned. Businesses that are family owned are much more likely to stand behind what they do because they're offering far more than a product, their offering the meaning of their word and their reputation.

In the automotive business, a family owned business is more than just an automotive repair facility. A family owner, and his hand picked team, can be rusted advisors of what you don't need to do as well as what you might want to do now to avoid bigger problems down the road. They'll get to know you and your car so they remember what was worked on last time and how the problems you may have experienced before fit with what's happening now (or not). It doesn't matter whether you're fixing transmissions, brakes, or air conditioning, or your fixing a dishwasher. Family owners tend to care and so many are so very trustworthy.

Family owned automotive repair is much like a family doctor and his trusted nurse practitioner and small administrative staff. In a big hospital conglomerate where Dr's might be overworked and see you once or twice in an emergency room, they aren't going to care about you as much as Dr. Mulligan who will be with you for years as your family doctor and knows you and your family's names and watched your kids grow. In addition, although the hospital doctor might ask you a few questions about what happened to you in the past, he's really not going to put it together the same as Dr. Mulligan who was there treating your family's health issues with you.

I guess that kind of sums it up for how I feel about family businesses. Many small businesses are indeed family businesses, so when you hear somebody say they are a small business, you may very well be hearing somebody offering the luxury of a family business. More than likely, it will be a business from which you'll enjoy years of great service.

Shopping for Auto Parts for Auto Repairs

Shopping for Auto Parts for Auto Repairs
    By Perry Gibson

Every brand of auto part has a difference which makes shopping for auto parts difficult if you don't know what you are looking. By following the tips below you will be able to find a good part for your vehicle without paying a lot of money.

Two similar products are original equipment manufactured or OEM and original equipment supplied or OES parts. Original equipment or OE of course is a generic term that refers to what brand came with the car originally. Auto manufacturers typically manufacture only the sheet metal components and then assemble the rest of the car from the purchased components.

Part of the qualifications for ISO certification is to have multiple OES brands. For certain types of parts car manufacturers must have secondary sourcing so that supply problems will not result in a halt of the manufacturer's production. This way if one supplier stops providing parts then another company can provide substitution for warranty replacement or repairs.

One lower cost alternative that many choose is aftermarket parts. Aftermarket parts are basically a copy of the original OE part. However, these parts have a major disadvantage which is an inferior product that may cost you more in avoidable repairs if you would have just gone with the more expensive part. However, many of the large merchandise stores you find on every street corner only carry aftermarket products. This is the only way may companies can complete with dealer prices for parts. So it typically all comes down to whether you want cheaper price or higher quality parts.

How To Save Big Money On Repairs And Auto Parts

How To Save Big Money On Repairs And Auto Parts
    By David Maillie

We all know it is cheaper to fix things yourself. It is the same with a car or truck. The biggest expense with any repair is not the parts, but the labor. It is not uncommon for repair and service shops to be charging $60 to $70 per hour of labor. And they round to the next half hour or hour for any repair. Just go to any new car dealer and ask to have your windshield wiper blades replaced. They will charge you 10 times the price of replacements at your local auto parts store. So anything you can do yourself to save will be a big help. The purpose of this article is to show you some things you can do on your own and how to get the lowest prices on parts so you can save big and put your money towards something better than fattening your local auto dealers pockets.

First off is routine maintenance. Routine maintenance consists of items like oil changes, tire rotations, and similar. Oil changes are a must at every 4000 to 5000 miles for most every car. Do not go by what your dealer says. They want to rev up your maintenance plan and have you doing more than is required. Instead, use your owners manual. If your car didnt come with one, than buy one off of Ebay. The owners manual will give you exact recommendations for every service and when and what should be done. For oil changes use Walmart. They charge around $15 for a oil and filter change and will lube your chassis at the same time. They will also check your tires and change your air filter if you desire or need it. They have the best service for the lowest price and at $15 its better to have them do it than do it yourself. Expect to pay twice this at a new car dealer.

It is also a good idea to check your tire pressure at every gas fill up. A tire pressure gauge can be purchased at Walmart or any auto parts store for a few dollars. Proper tire pressure will prolong the usefulness of your tires and help ensure better fuel economy. To most people a under inflated tire is pretty obvious, but a over inflated tire can be just as dangerous as it can lead to blowouts and loss of traction especially in wet conditions (hydroplaning). Also, check your tires for nails, punctures, slashes, anything that could be wrong with it. If you need new tires, be sure to shop around and avoid the new car dealer as they will have a huge markup on them. For instance, 1 ZR Goodyear tire for a 2002 Ford Mustang GT was $289. The same ZR tire with a different make (Kumho) was $100 installed and balanced (the $289 at the dealer did not include installation or balancing. Shop around and look at discount stores. Also look at Costco, Sams club and BJs for tires. If you have an older car and dont care about matching the exact style you can always go to your local junk yard and buy an entire set for dirt cheap. You would be amavzed at what you might find there. A friend of mine picked up 4 tires for a 1999 corvette for $150 and the tires only had maybe 10,000 miles on them if that.

Lights and lighting on your car are an item that is routinely overlooked. If your lights are dim you could have a battery charge, alternator or dim, cloudy lenses. These are all easy to fix. A battery should be checked for its ability to hold charge at least once a year (more in extremely cold climates). An alternator can be replaced very easily, or if you dont feel comfortable a local mechanic can do it. Do not do this at a new car dealer as they will charge at least 300% more. A good tip is to go and buy the part at your local auto parts store and then inquire with the counter clerk as to a mechanic that they recommend to install it. You will save a lot and it will be professionally done. They will probably even come to your house to do it. As to your headlights, turn on your lights. If they are dim, is it the bulb or cloudy lenses? If it is the bulb, the cheapest replacements can be found at Walmart or on Ebay. It is recommended you go with brighter Xeon bulbs as they are only a few dollars more and increase brightness and night visibility by over 20 percent. If it is cloudy headlights there is a new headlight repair and restoration kit that will restore the lenses to new. This will save you big over replacement as the average plastic automotive lens costs $250 to replace.

Checking your fluid levels routinely is a good idea. A lot of cars now will do this for you and will even alert you to when it is time to perform a certain service. It takes 2 minutes to unscrew the oil cap and pull out the dipstick. On older cars you should also look under the cap. Is the oil really dirty, sludge like, or have white in it? These all indicate something needs to be done. The first two mean it is in dire need of an oil change. The latter with the whiteness or light chocolate look means you have a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into the engine. That is really bad and requires major repairs and can be the result of running a car too hot. Fill all fluids to the fuel full line or indicator. By routinely checking your cars fluid levels you will be ahead of the game and keep your car running better and for much longer.

Another great idea to keep service costs to a minimum and save you big at the same time is to buy 1 to 3 year old used cars with around 30,000 miles on them. Then drive them until you get 100,000 miles on it and replace it. Most major repairs rarely occur before 100,000 miles with proper routine maintenance. Use and follow your owners manual. It was written by the ultimate expert, the people who built, designed and tested your car.

Tips on Finding Acura Parts For Repairs

Tips on Finding Acura Parts For Repairs
    By Christopher Luck

How should you go about locating Acura parts so that you can save a few dollars and do repairs at home rather than at the dealer? Doing repairs at home has saved me a lot of money over the years. At the cost of only my time, I have been able to do repairs at a small fraction of what a dealership or garage would charge for the same service. So, if you enjoy working on your car, doing repairs at home can be a great way to save some money. However, when it comes time to fix your Acura, where do you go to find Acura parts at a reasonable price? There are a few places you can look that will help you to get what you need at a price you like.

The first place to look for affordable Acura parts is, of course, on the internet. By using a search engine you will be able to look world wide quickly for those who may be selling Acura parts. Check first for specific Acura part dealers who may be stockpiling a lot of the parts you need and selling them at a lower price than the garage you had been using was. You can also check for general car part websites that may even give you access to their inventory database so that you can see if they have the Acura parts you need and at what price they are selling them. Look for sites that offer free shipping or discounts over other prices you have seen.

The next place to look is the old fashion way of finding Acura parts or parts for any other model: the junk yard. Find your local junk yard. You will have to likely wade through the rows of junked cars to find Acuras, but once you do you will have access to many Acura parts that the yard will likely sell you at a very reasonable price. Make sure you bring your tools, though, because you will likely have to remove the Acura part yourself and the junk yard is not in the business of loaning out tools.

Third, check the classified ads in your local paper. Often times if people are going to sell their car for parts, they may do so through the paper. Look for Acura parts listed or start calling some of the ads. Sometimes you stumble on someone who knows someone that may be able to help you get the Acura parts you need at a good price. Like with anything else, sometimes it is just about networking.

Doing repairs on your Acura yourself is a great way to save yourself a few bucks. In addition to saving on the labor, you can do a little research and likely save yourself money on the parts as well. Do some research to find Acura parts you may need at great prices by going on line, checking your local junk yards, and even making some calls to those advertising in your local papers classifieds. You will be happy with what you will be able to save on Acura parts by just doing a little calling around and some leg work, plus you just might have fun.

Important Precautions to Take When Doing Auto Repairs

Important Precautions to Take When Doing Auto Repairs
    By Perry Gibson

It is always important to be prepared just in case, so you should always have a fire extinguisher nearby while you work. You may not have to use it but it's important to have one there in case it is needed. The ideal fire extinguishers should be both B and C rated for liquid, grease and electrical fires.

If you are going to do any electrical repair work it is always important to disconnect a battery cable or a power fuse from a circuit. This will ensure that you do have shorts that can damage your wiring or start a vehicle fire. This is also important for vehicles that have air bags since crossing wires may cause the air bag to go off.

If you are working with a vehicle that has an integral ABS system then you should always remember to depressurize the system before you open a brake line or replace any components of the system. Depressurizing can be done by pressing the brake pedal twenty-four to forty times while the key is off.

Before working on a car two important things you should take care of. Minimizing your distractions and tell someone what you are going to be doing. You can reduce injury not only to yourself but to others. In addition, you will reduce the chance of making a mistake. So make sure small children, pets or other individuals who may distract you are not nearby when you work. Also by telling someone what you plan on doing you will have someone who will know to dial 911 if the need for it occurs.

Auto repair advice is sometimes provided in manuals given along with your vehicle. Whether opting for online advice or depending on repair manuals, the vehicle owner should have a clear understanding of the terms and techniques involved. One has also to check whether the repairs provided have any guarantees. If so, get the details in writing.

It is important to verify whether your car is still under warranty before venturing to repair the car yourself. For cars under warranty, the repair work must be performed by a mechanic or a technician certified by the manufacturer. The repair in this case is usually carried out at the dealer's service center. Some manufacturers do not offer to perform repair work and you may have the provision of carrying it out elsewhere. Read your warranty carefully to find out how you can get the repair costs reimbursed.

    Auto Glass Repair vs Replacement

    Auto Glass Repair vs Replacement
    By Scotty Johnson

Whenever there's an accident, the first thing that has a probability of breaking is the windshield. Even a small crack can often spread across your area of vision or it can spread into the inner layer of your windshield, which is a plastic layer sandwiched between the two glass layers. Even a small stone can cause extensive damage.

Whenever such a situation occurs, the first thing that arises in our mind is which option we should choose - repair or replacement. If we go for repair rather than the replacement then certainly we can save some money. Modern windshields have been designed to be repairable. Nowadays special injections are coming into the automobile glass market that contain a special resin which is injected into the damaged area using unique tools that attach directly to the glass.

Some chips or cracks may react successfully to the repair whereas some may not. Windshield repair is like first aid. If you leave a crack and do not fix it, then it may cause more severe damage and the condition of the windshield can get much worse.

If a tiny size chip is just in front of your driving seat, then a quick repair is must as this may hinder your vision. Windshield repair can be quarter sized or up to 3 inches long. But some advance techniques can repair up to 12 inches long cracks. For more than 12-inch cracks, only replacement is suggested.

Major thing that needs to be considered is the location and size of the damage. If damage is at the edge of the windshield then it will spread fast and will destroy the integrity of the glass. If any edge damage is found then repair it soon. It will save the life of your windshield.

Some of current techniques do no repair those cracks that directly come into the view of drivers line of sight because a small distortion may still left behind. In that case replacement would be a wise decision. Cost of the repair is entirely depending upon the damage of the windshield. If the cracks are quite long or around 12 inches then charges will be higher.

Certainly if you go for replacement then your insurance company may not pay you the entire replacement amount but in case of repair they may pay the total expenditure. So repair is a more economical process.

Windshield repair or replacement is totally depending upon the size and location of the damage and cracks. So, before going for any of these options just consult a glass specialist who can examine your shield and suggest if a repair will work or not. If damage from an accident is quite big then do not compromise your life, as you know better that windshield replacement is a necessity. Just bear in mind that your life is more valuable than anything else.

Auto Repair Scams Can Cost You a Fortune

Auto Repair Scams Can Cost You a Fortune
    By Charles Essmeier

A lot of people like owning and driving cars, but no one likes to repair them or pay to have them repaired. But cars are like anything else; if you use them, they eventually need attention. Todays vehicles are far more complicated than the cars of a generation ago, so fewer and fewer consumers are able to do their own repairs. That means taking it to a professional mechanic when something goes wrong, and choosing a bad one can cost you a fortune.

While the majority of auto mechanics are honest people, there are more than a few that have been known to take advantage of consumers by engaging in a number of unethical practices:

  • Padding the price with unnecessary repairs.

  • Padding the price with work not actually done.

  • Charging for new parts when using used ones or charging for factory parts when using third-party parts.

  • Providing higher estimates to female customers than they do to men.

  • Using the wrong mechanic can not only cost you money, but it can actually endanger your life if the work was not done properly or even done at all. What can you do to make sure that the mechanic you hire will do a good job and treat you fairly?

    You might consider the following:

  • Ask your family or friends for recommendations. People often take their cars to the same shop for years, so a recommendation from a longtime customer would be helpful.

  • Check with the local Better Business Bureau to see if the shop in question has a history of consumer complaints.

  • Check to see if the mechanics are certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. These certifications indicate technicians who have passed comprehensive exams and are probably sufficiently competent to handle the job.

  • Check out the shop in person. Look around. Is it clean? Organized? Does it have a professional look? If the shop is run by professionals, it should look as though it is run by professionals.

  • Do they provide a written estimate? Most reputable shops will do so; if they dont, you could find yourself with a rapidly escalating repair bill.

  • Check with the American Automobile Association. They provide members with a list of reputable shops that can take care of your needs.

  • If you drive a lot, and most people do, it is vitally important that your car be kept in the best possible condition. That means finding a reputable place to have it repaired when something goes wrong. The last thing you want when your car breaks is to take it to someone who will do a poor job or charge you too much money. Taking your time in finding a reputable mechanic is a good start.

Auto Electrical Repair Know Thy Battery

Auto Electrical Repair - Know Thy Battery
    By Terje Ellingsen

When doing auto electrical repair, the first vehicle component your should acquire knowledge about is the car battery. Even though the battery only store 12 volts, it is the electrical source of the entire vehicle. You will not be able to start your engine without the battery. In addition the auto battery helps to operate all the electrical accessories installed on your motorcar. An auto battery should last 3-5 years in average climates. Extreme hot or cold climates however, will reduce this to only 2-3 years.

An auto battery is built up of six cells, each containing stacked positive and negative lead plates. These are divided and separated by insulators and immersed in an electrolyte, a liquid blend of sulfuric acid and water. However, some batteries, use a gel instead of the electrolyte. This is considered to be safer and because you do not have to refill it with electrolyte, it has been labelled maintenance-free. Each cell generates or more correctly put, stores 2.1 volts for a total of 12.6 volts.

Between the electrolyte and the lead plates, a chemical reaction is created. This produces dangerous, explosive gases that vent through the battery cover vents. Because of this, caution should be taken when you charge or jump start a low battery. The same caution should also be taken every time you are working under the hood of your vehicle. It is important to provide as good ventilation as possible in the battery, so always keep it clean. All batteries, even those using gel instead of electrolyte lose charging capacity as the time passes. The reason for this is that the chemical breakdown of the connections inevitably takes place leading to the deterioration of the plates and loss of the electrolyte.
When your vehicle has start up or charging problems, the vehicle troubleshooting procedure should start with a test of the battery. You do that with a visual check followed by a voltage test. If the battery is ok, other components of the electrical system is probably the reason, but battery problems are by far the most likely reason.

A good thing with battery checking and trouble shooting is that you need very little technical equipment. All you need is a good, old Digital Volt Ohm Meter and a charger for the battery.
Each auto battery manufacturer uses a certain color in the battery 'eye' which tells whether a charge is needed. This is a fast and easy way to alert you for re-charging. Check out your battery manufacturer's specification of the eye and everything associated with it.

If you need to replace your auto battery, always test it before you replace it. Also test the entire electrical system of your car. The reason for your battery problem might be a weak alternator or a drain on the system and if this is the case it won't take many weeks before your have to replace the new one as well. What seems to be a battery problem is not always caused by the battery itself. You can acquire more information about how to repair your car's electrical system on the web.

    Home Auto Repair

    Home Auto Repair
    By Ken Marlborough

Doing auto repairs at home is one of the best ways to keep a car in tiptop shape. Home auto repair is cost-efficient, too, because you can save on professional fees. All it takes to fix your car is a substantial amount of know-how plus a collection of quality tools.

For most people, doing things themselves has its own rewards. The most obvious benefit is that they get to save their hard-earned dollars. When it comes to auto repair, the same mindset applies. It is not surprising why there are many people who still prefer to fix their car in the comfort of their own homes instead of bringing their vehicle in for commercial auto repairs.

Home auto repairs allow car owners the chance to work closely with their own vehicles. They get to tinker around with their cars to identify if it needs tuning up or if a certain part needs replacing. Home auto repairs leave the responsibility in the hands of the car owner. Owners would not have to worry about mechanics mishandling their vehicles or charging them huge fees for simple auto repairs.

    Auto Detailing Addon Headlight Repair

    Auto Detailing Add-on; Headlight Repair
    By Lance Winslow

Have you thought of adding Headlight Repair to your auto detailing business? A new set of sealed beam headlights on a New Jeep Cherokee could run as high as $70, however your team can make money lightly sanding and coating these headlights with the Micro-Glass product in the Micro-Mesh Kit by Micro Surface Corporation. It is important for the detailing companies to constantly review such products, this innovation has propelled our team to come up with the solutions for our fleet customers and help us bundle services to compete against the other large vendors to these fleet companies. One company we compete with out of New Jersey does offer this service, but we do and we are able to use this to our advantage on bidding on fleet detailing work.

This is just one more way you can bundle services to provide a value added service to your customers. We have talked to managers of fleet wash companies and fleet detailing companies in their various markets. Some of these managers have told us they have been looking into doing headlight restoration, because their customers are now asking for the service. Many of the high-end to Auto detailing shops do offer headlight restoration using various methods. Recently with the floods that we've had in the United States, we have seen Auto auctions start to offer this service also. Generally the Auto auctions that we've seen do not know how to deal with sealed beams, instead they're much better with none sealed beams, and by removing the lens and wiping down the inside and using glass wax they are able to make the lenses look transparent and therefore the car looks sellable as runs through the auto auctions.

Whereas this is a good idea for auto auctions it is not good enough for the fleet customers especially those that assign their cars to specific individuals. Companies like the Baby Bells, quest, Cox cable, AT&T, FedEx, United States Postal Service etc. have thousands and thousands of vehicles. Generally these vehicles are assigned for the most part with very few as a percentage of the total fleet being pool cars like at the GSA office. As the vehicles get back from Iraq and Kuwait and were ever they do next to wipe out terrorism from the face of the planet, they will have sand blasted headlights, from the very fine silica type sand of the Middle East. So how does one go about taking care of this problem? Well, it is much simpler than you think.

The first thing to do is to assess exactly how bad the damage it is this can be done in a number of ways; first, you would get the opaqueness or cloudiness of the lens. Second, you look to see if there's any pit marks and hard water spots. This is how you assess which method you'll use to either clean or restore the surface. Let's face it if there's too much damage, the time it will take to fix the lens will cost you more than to replace it. The micromesh is cool because you can use it either wet or dry when you're sanding. How much do most detailers charge for this service? Well in depends the tupe of vehicles and locations of the fleets; vans such bread companies, wholesale companies, small package delivery companies, online grocery services, dry cleaners, flower shops, armored car services, limo services, school buses, garbage trucks any other fleets mentioned above, we have found that is not difficult to get 8 to $10 per lens, remember each of the service trucks or cars have between two and for lenses.

This can add up to quite a lot of money very quickly. We have also found that used car dealerships will go for it once you show them how it works. We also found it to be a nice add-on to keep our crews busy in inclement weather. As you know the Northeast United States has been slammed by snowstorms and Nor-Easters, these additional services provide an extra revenue generator when wash cars.

There is a great article in TSP magazine in the October -- November 2003 edition about this product and ease of use. The micromesh soft touch pads are only three by four inches with a phone center but they were killer since they have micromesh upon both sides. When using them they bend with the lens as you're working so you can go fast with even pressure. We found that we could clean, micromesh, white and buff a lens in about six to eight minutes. If you're working indoors on a fleet of vehicles in the winter in the northern colder climates of the US or Canada you can make money no matter what the weather is in this is just one more way we are solving the problem of continuing sales with a mobile carwash or mobile detailing rig in the harsh winter weather climates. By using the micromesh can't it cuts down the time to do the job significantly. The old way was to use different levels of fine grit sandpaper slowly working up. For instance starting with a 1000 grit and working upwards to 12,000 grit in a micro fiber. This is great if you're restoring your car, but it just wasn't worth it if you're detailing one. Another company which recommends using the product is Bud Abrams detail plus: http://www.DetailPlus.com which I believe also sells these Kit's.

You should take a look at the micromesh product and its uses and think about using this as an add-on for your existing auto detailing business.

Auto Repair Average Costs Why Mechanics Will Fight Tooth and Nail to Dictate Car Repair Prices

Auto Repair Average Costs- Why Mechanics Will Fight Tooth and Nail to Dictate Car Repair Prices
    By Theodore Olson

Every now and again we get a few upset mechanics or shop owners complaining that it is not possible for RepairTrust to provide accurate car repair estimates. They go on to say that we dont know what were talking aboutthat were idiotsand many other colorful words.

Following is one such discussion on car repair costs. Its highlighted here to illustrate the resistance and defiance of the auto repair industry to anyone suggesting a fair car repair price - even an average - other than the repair facility itself.

This particular shop owner writes via email (edited for this article):

I would like you to inform me on what I should charge for a given repair without you knowing anything about my business, about my warranty, my benefits for employees, my services or overhead. Please explain with clarity how you can predetermine the cost of doing business from one location to another.

I would really be surprised if anyone replied to this request. Advise at a cost?? Come-on boys... lets come up with intelligent response here...

    RepairTrust immediately responded:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting RepairTrust. We very much appreciate your thoughts.

Your question is a great one, and it has been raised before by other auto repair professionals in the industry.

Just so I'm clear, you'd like to know how we can price a job fairly
without ever seeing it or knowing a shop's particular set-up (salary, overheadetc.)

This question, again, while a good one, always surprises me.

Ive been estimating car repairs on all makes and models both foreign and domestic for well over twenty years. I would suspect that as a repair shop owner you provide estimates to your clients on a daily basis as well. Most times this is done while the vehicle is in your possession. Other times, customers would like you to tell them what certain repairs are going to cost prior to coming in - correct?

Letting customers know what repairs are going to cost ahead of time is just one of the many services that RepairTrust provides.

How we do it is simple:

The labor rate is the labor rate (we used the client's shop labor rate).

The labor times are determined from fair and well-established industry pricing standards (discussed at length in our books).

Part prices are part prices (MSRP anyway, and less the matrix). This is also discussed at length in our materials.

Premium aftermarket parts are strikingly similar in cost across the nation. Miscellaneous charges, flat fees, shop supplies, hazardous waste, disposal chargesetc, follow a similar pattern as well.

We even go so far as to account for local taxes, labor rates, and unforeseen circumstances (rust, corrosionall the stuff a tech runs into during a repair).

As a shop owner, when you provide an estimate, am I correct in assuming that you would add arring any unforeseen circumstances to any price you quoted?

A RepairTrust auto repair estimate is detailed, accurate, and fair for both the car repair customer and the repair facility. Our primary goal is FAIR.

As for charging to provide a fair, accurate, and unbiased auto repair estimate, we know the value of our service, as do our clients.

The fact is that 98% of all repair shops are charging excessive car repair prices, and the consumer has no resource in which to turn. This statistic is supported by every government consumer agency including Alaska, major and independent news sources, as well as a variety of consumer advocate groups.

The problem of excessive car repair prices is not just national; its intercontinental. Australia recently found that auto repair shops were number 4 on their top 10 consumer complaint list.

I hope this answers at least some of your questions.

Thank you again for your comments, and please keep the professional lines of
    communication open.

    Sincerely,

    -Ted Olson

    Founder, RepairTrust.com

IMPORTANT: It should be noted that the shop owners primary issues of overhead and expenses are commonly used justifications to manipulate industry pricing guidelines in favor of the repair shop. This has been going on for so long that its considered normal. For more information on this epidemic visit: http://www.repairtrust.com/

    Auto Dent Repair

    Auto Dent Repair
    By Ken Marlborough

Auto dent repair is the process of removing vehicle dents, which occur due to collisions. It can be done on all vehicles such as vans, trailer trucks, sport utility vehicles (SUV), and compact cars. The time taken for the whole process depends on the size and location of dents and the technician's skill level. It also depends on the extent of damage.

Generally, there are two types of auto dent repair. They are paint restoration repair and paintless dent repair. Paint restoration is suited for large dents and the technique involves various processes such as pulling or pounding out dents, grinding, chiseling, and sanding. Mechanics make use of common tools like pullers, dent hammers, drills, fender picks, and rivets depending on the nature of work.

If the dent is too large or cannot be repaired, the whole panel or section of vehicle is removed. In such cases, pulling or pounding out is done before the panel or section is removed, and the new portion is attached by welding. Once the above process is over, the repaired area is primed for further painting.

Paint less auto dent repair is commonly used for smaller or minor dents. Here, dents are removed with the help of specialized tools by starting from outer edges, the paint or the original factory finish of the dent portion remains as such and the cost involved in painting is reduced.

You can repair the dent on your vehicle at any of the repair shops in your area. Reputable repair shops offer guaranteed quality workmanship at reasonable prices. Some even give back your car on the same day.

How To Repair Your Car's Power Windows

How To Repair Your Car's Power Windows
    By Matthew Keegan

As youre driving down the turnpike and approaching the tollbooth, you reach for the switch to lower your window and nothing happens. The switch moves but the window does not budge. Not even a noise from the window motor can be heard which strongly suggests to you that the device is not functioning. You must stop your car and open up the door to pay the attendant before continuing on your trip. Thoughts of an expensive car repair bill are dancing through your head, putting you in a foul mood and tempering the anticipated fun of your getaway weekend. Dont despair: you can repair the power window yourself and save a bundle over expensive dealership charges. Lets take a look at the steps you can take to fix the problem yourself and save a lot of cash in the process.

Before assuming that the window regulator must be replaced you should first rule out the possibility of dirty electrical contacts. On most cars the main power for all switches goes through the master switch located at the drivers console. Sometimes the switch is dirty causing the window to malfunction. If this is the case, take the necessary steps to clean the contact and your problem should be resolved.

Should you determine that the contacts are clean and your switch is functioning, then it is likely that the motor has burned out and is in need of replacing. Whether you are installing a Honda window regulator or a Volkswagen window regulator, or a regulator for any other make the steps involved in replacing a window regulator are usually quite similar:

    1. Remove the door panel for the affected window.

    2. Locate and remove the bolts holding the regulator to the door; it is likely you will have to manually lower the window in order to access the bolts.

    3. Remove the old regulator, disconnect all wiring, and replace the old regulator with a new one you have purchased from a parts supplier. Shop online to find the best value as you will pay a mint if you order one through a dealership.

    4. Tighten the bolts holding the new regulator and reinstall the moisture barrier. Make sure all the wires are put back in the door before closing the door panel.

    5. Engage the power window switch and the new regulator should work unimpeded.

Of course, follow your cars repair manual for specific instructions.

Ive given to you a general outline to convince you that this is a task that even a novice mechanic can handle in other words: you can do it! By handling the problem yourself, youll save plenty of money by avoiding garages who will mark up the replacement part as well as tack on several hours of labor costs to your bill. Shop online to compare prices and to receive the best shipping and handling arrangements available.

Auto Repair: How Can They Screw Up an Oil Change?

Auto Repair: How Can They Screw Up an Oil Change?
    By Theodore Olson

Its all about beating the clock. This quote comes from a wise old service manager, advising me on how to maximize my income as a flat-rate technician. If you have ever wondered why your car doesnt get fixed correctly, or all your concerns werent addressed, you can blame, in part, the flat-rate pay structure.

Flat-rate simply means that your mechanic is paid a flat fee for a particular repair, regardless of how long the repair actually takes. In other words, if your car needs a water pump, which pays two hours of labor, and the mechanic completes the job in one hour, he gets paid for two.

In theory, this can work to your advantage. If the job takes longer, you still only pay the predetermined labor amount. In THEORY, not reality!

The flat-rate pay structure is designed to drive productivity. Its very effective. The flat-rate pay system encourages technicians to work hard and fast, but it does not promote quality.

In terms of getting your car fixed correctly, the flat-rate pay structure has disastrous effects. Flat-rate technicians are constantly looking for shortcuts to beat the clock in order to maximize the number of hours they bill. Experienced flat-rate technicians can bill anywhere from 16 to 50 hours in an 8 hour day.

Its these shortcuts and the breakneck speed at which flat rate technicians work that result in some of the most idiotic mistakes. In the rapid-fire pace of a shop Ive witnessed technicians start engines with no oil. Ive seen transmissions dropped, smashing into little pieces onto the shop floor. And Ive seen cars driven right through bay doorsall in the name of beating the clock.

Flat-rate technicians can get quite elaborate with shortcuts. My favorite was the implementation of an 8-foot-long 2-by-4, which was placed under the engine for support while a motor mount was removed. It made a job predetermined to take 1.5 hours achievable in twenty minutes. A win-win, right? The technician makes extra money; you get your car back faster. Actually, in many cases the placement of this 2-by-4 damaged the oil pan. Moreover, it caused the car, your car, to balance precariously 6 feet in the air, while the technician manipulated the car lift to access your engine mount. This tactic was abruptly discontinued when a technicians 2-by-4 snapped causing the car to crash nose down onto the concrete floor.

Sometimes the shortcuts create very subtle disturbances, which create problems overtime. A quick example: a vehicle had its transmission serviced with a new filter, gasket, and fluid. During the procedure, the technician was able to save time by bending the transmission dipstick tube slightly, in order to get the transmission pan out faster. The vehicle was reassembled, and the technician re-bent the tube back into place and off it wentno worries.

Six months later, the vehicle returned with an intermittent misfire. The engine wasnt running on all cylinders. After extensive diagnostics, it was discovered that the transmission dipstick tube had chaffed through the engine harness, intermittently grounding out an injector. Hmm, thats strange. Dont usually see that.

The high-speed environment and the subsequent shortcuts illustrate the devastating effects of the flat-rate, sales-driven pay structure on the quality of car repairs. No wonder even an oil change gets screwed up!

The poor quality of work encouraged by the flat rate pay structure is disconcerting enough. Unfortunately, it doesnt stop here. The negative effects of flat-rate get exponentially worse as it opens wide the door to rip you off!

    Online Auto Repair

    Online Auto Repair
    By Ken Marlborough

The Internet is a powerful tool to access information on any subject area, and one can find an incredible amount of car care information with a click of a button. Furthermore, with the help of a regular web search one can also find network links to information about automotive repair, vehicle maintenance, automotive diagnostic data and labor estimates. There are also a lot of good online auto repair web sites with individual articles that can answer your questions on all sorts of auto repair and car maintenance topics, such as how to change your oil, the best way to bleed brakes, why a car might stall or be hard to start, what color your radiator fluid should be, or even how to drive a stick shift.

Some websites also provide users with platforms like blogs, chat lines and discussion areas where a person can share his knowledge related to auto repair, like experience changing ball joints, replacing an automatic transmission, or diagnosing the causes for a bearing failure. Many websites offer external links associated with auto repair, like installing a replacement ignition system, upgrading an exhaust system, or making auto body repairs.

Most of these websites offer general advice and one can download manuals on self-repairing small technical snags in automotive parts free of cost. However, some websites are subscription-based and offer detailed advice by expert technicians for a nominal charge. A user can access websites like Jonko Auto Repair Online, TrustMyMechanic.com, AceAutomative, RepairManual.com, Motorcyclebooks.com etc. to get updated information on the auto repair industry, the prevailing rates for getting their car repaired and other information on auto maintenance.

Therefore, the next time you have a technical snag in your automobile, before visiting the repair shop, log on to various auto repair websites and gather information on the problem. Average Auto Repair Costs

    Average Auto Repair Costs
    By Ken Marlborough

In 1960, the average auto repair cost for a popular midsize car driven for 15,000 miles a year was about $8,053. After a decade, the cost got cheaper and averaged about $7,770. In 2000, that figure went down to $6,880.

Having your vehicle repaired really does mean that you have to shell out some hard-earned cash from time to time. This is the reason why most people try to keep their cars in tiptop shape through regular maintenance. The continued upkeep of a vehicle helps it perform at optimum levels and lessens the risk of a total breakdown. It also helps fix problems while they are still manageable and do not yet affect a significant part of the car's systems. It is better to pay for car tune-ups every so often than to rack up bills for a major problem.

Take a look at your vehicle. You will see that it is made up of individual parts connected to form a bigger functioning whole. The performance of a system depends on the efficiency of its parts. If one part does not work as well as it should, the entire car system is affected. This is why it is important to identify damage or malfunction right away. When you recognize a problem early, you are able to solve it more promptly, saving yourself big expenses in the long run.

Here are a few systems found in a vehicle, along with the average cost of their repairs. The four-wheel drive's differential and transfer case, for example, has an average repair cost of $1100. Containing over a hundred parts, the air conditioner and heater system could incur repair costs as high as $700. The brake system, which is also comprised of more than a hundred parts, has an average repair cost of $350.

When the cooling system breaks down, you can pay as much as $465 on average to get it fixed. Drive axles and differentials have over 70 parts and the price of their repairs falls between $500 and $1000. Repair costs for your car's electrical systems can reach $800. Troubleshooting your engine costs about $2000. You pay an average of $550 for repairs on the fuel system and $600 for the steering system.
